At first I wanted him to buy me a new label maker that used cheaper cartridges, but I soon found out that wasn't going to work because they didn't have all the symbols that my label maker has just decided to stick with the one I have for now:-)

Today I am officially 39:-) thought I'd share more of my goodies from friends and family.

My local Scrapbook Store 'Memories in Bloom' celebrates their anniversary at the same time as my birthday so I decided to take one of my birthday gifts, yep thats right it was a check - this from my dad and I thought I'd spread the wealth with MIB:-) lol below is the pictures of all my goodies -- HUGE SALE LOTS OF GOODIES

Memories in Bloom was having door prizes and thank you gifts in the bag so some of this I didn't know I had until I got home which made it an even more of a fun surprise - my daughter went with me so I ended up with two door prizes -- the purple monochromatic was my door prize which tickled me because as most of you know purple is my favorite color:-)
My girlfriends Boo and Dot took me out to dinner at O'Charley's for dinner and then we came back to the house and had a play date:-) we are always buying things for each other through the year so our birthdays we have a tendency to buy or give foolish things to each other -- the rubiks cube was from my friend Dot's workplace (she works at an insurance office) She seen it and thought of us and knew we would want to alter it -- The coffee was something I had been after my friend Boo to let me have for about a year and while packing up her shop she found it again, so it was a birhtday gift along with the Readers Digests and heart shaped book.
This is a gift from my son Joey - he bought this with his own money - he knew I wanted a Japanese Screw Punch -- well I would not spend $40 or $50 on one since I won't use it a lot so when I seen this at Wal-Mart I thought it would be great for my needs - Joey was with me when I found it - so he decided that was he would his gift to me:-)
I wanted an MP3 player so that I could listen to my audio book in the car so this was my gift from my mom -- Yep I made out like bandit:-) lol

My Birthday

Well on Monday Juley 28 I turn 39 - WOW I feel so old:-) lol

I wanted to share with you 2 gifts I got from a friend she made me a beautiful handmade rope bracelet of blue and green beads and a 4x4 canvas with a handmade beaded butterfly - I feel so special to have recevied such a beautiful gift - yes I know I keep saying gift I know I received 2 but I'm biased I LOVE MY BRACELET THE BEST:-) I will wear it as often as I can.

These are my two gifts from Halle.

My canvas will hang on the wall in my art room so that I can see it everday - in hopes that on those days that my muse is missing it will inspire me:-) lol

A while back my dad came to visit me he lives in Wichita which is where my friend Elizabeth lives and she had some things she wanted to send to me so my dad being the most wonderful dad (yes I know I am biased there to but it is true no one could have asked for a better one) he stopped by E's house on the way here to pick up the things she wanted to send my way along with everything she sent me an early birthday gift gotta take advantage of free shipping no matter in what guise:-) lol She made me a collage canvas of blue's it is the color of my living room I showed it off before but I didn't want her to feel slighted when I started sharing my gifts so please click here to go see my birthday gift from E and how I displayed it -- I had it on my wall in my living room before my dad even had his truck unloaded that evening:-)

I'm in a 4x4 postage stamp fat book swap - mine will be a Christmas gift - I will also be adding junk mail 4x4's in the book as well -- Haven't quite figured out what to title the book, but I suppose it will come to me:-)

The background for the Curious George 4x4's is a paint splatter, the Patriotic 4x4's are a napkin, the Statue of Liberty is the postage stamp blow up to the to be used on the 4x4, The Austrailan stamps background is a tissue box. Can't go to the store and just buy any box of tissues these days - it takes longer to choose a box of tissues now then it does to buy a new shirt:-) lol

A Gift From A Friend

My dad came to visit me at the beginning of April and as a favor to me he stopped by my friend Elizabeth's house to pick up some things that E wanted to send this way so she could save on postage. Elizabeth decided that she wasnted to send me an early birthday gift. She made me a wall hanging using leftover scraps all in different shades of blue which is the color of my living room, I loved it so much that I had my husband hang it my livingroom not 5 minutes after my father brought it into the house -- My husband said "I hate it" - and his reason for hating it... "IT'S NOT LONG ENOUGH" --rofl, as you can see by the large window where we hung it - he thought it would have looked even better had it been about 5 feet longer then it was. We had to remind him that it wouldn't have fit in my dads truck, Oh well short or long it looks wonderful in m living room and I LOVE IT!!!!

Altered Altoid Tin

I made this tin for a Spring swap awhile back - though not the first altoid tin I've altered it is the first tin I covered with polymer clay - I learned how to do this from my friend Debbie Sprake, who creates some of the most beautiful polymer clay art that I've seen. Debbie showed me how to use alcohol inks to color the polymer clay and then to stamp into the clay using ink pads instead of mica powder as a release agent.

Fashion - Altered Book

I got bored and started working on a book that will be a Round Robin in the future. This was a childs board book I stripped the pages (I have found that if you are careful you can actully peel the pages up instead of sanding or gessoing them) I covered the outside of the books as well as all the inside pages with dressmaking pattern I tore the patterns into strips and used gel medium to cover the pages. The binding of the book is aluminum I distress and then used brads to attatch it to the book (I got this idea from another artists book in a current Round Robin).

Scrabble Charm Bracelet

I really got hooked on making charms from Scrabble tiles, a long time back I bought 3 complete scrabble games so I have all these tiles that were just sitting there taunting me:-) lol I got the idea to use the tiles this way from a link on the internet I wish I could remember where so I could give credit to who gave me the idea but I can't so just know that this isn't my original idea.

I've been working on charms for a few different swaps I'm in and thought I'd share them with everyone. I really like how they turned out the 3 below with pictures on them are made using Scrabble tiles, I used my dremmel (my favoirte tool) to add the holes in the tiles printed the pictures from my computer and sprayed them with workable fixative after they dried I add Dimmensional Magic and the dangle beads - the puzzle pieces are real I painted them and covered them with Gel Medium for strength as well as the Dimensional Magic and then added the P these were made for a swap on my Puzzle Art Plus group - the holes are strengthened with eyelets. The dragonfly is a store bought charm with beads added to glitz it up a bit, the blue and red one is a handmade bead using polymer clay, it was used with leftover clay that gets caught in my past machine this way nothing is ever wasted:-)

Backgrounds made from Color Mists, Viva paper towels, and mica powders

Belinda and E both used color mists I used watered down acrylic paints, as I don't own in color mists yet, maybe one of these days:-) lol

Here are a few images of my favorite backgrounds out of the ones I did - I made 36 and still want to make more as I forgot to break out my mica powders (compliments of E) and would really like to add some umph to my backgrounds:-) lol

I like how mine turned out but think they would have looked better with some mica powder added - so will have to try again:-) lol

A week at Elizabeth's

I was going to post pictues of my week at Elizabeth's but decided that since both Elizabeth and Kathy both took and posted pictures on their blog's it seemed so much easier just to post their sites and you can go see and read all about my week at E's and our day on the town with Kathy and Dana - Dana lives in Wichita not far from E and Kathy drove in from Hutchison for a day of shopping and lunch or as my husband would say a day of spending his money:-) lol

So first go to Elizabeth's site Altered Book Lover and scroll down to Saturday January 12. 2008 A Week of Art: and start reading about our week and let me tell you Elizabeth should have been a writer because she has a way of making a a rather dull week sound like a wonderful novel, now don't get me wrong I had a GREAT week spending it with E, we had a great time creating art and just spending time together, but hey will everyone find our week as much fun as we did?? So anyway if that dosen't bore you - lol - then head on over to Kat's Kuriosities and see the pictures she has posted of Dana, Elizabeth and myslef and let me tell you the pictures of Elizabeth are rare ones she hates having her picture taken let me tell you - I thought I had trouble taking pics of my dd, E could give her lessons on avoiding the camera and she already does it really well:-) lol - While your at Kat's Kuriosities - don't forget to take a look at the pictures of her childs ironing board that she altered, the pictues don't do it justice but they do enough to make you drool she did such a wonderful job on it - we've tried talking her into sending it into a magazine, so who knows maybe someday you'll see this gracing the pages of an altered magazine and you can say Hey I know who did that:-) lol

Secret trip to Kansas

My dad retired from the post office at the beginning of the year and my sister and step-mom decided to have a party for him and not only was the party to be a surprise but so was I:-) lol

We held the party at the Spice Merchant in Wichita Kansas, Bob the owner was in surprise and helped us trick dad into being there on time by telling him that there was going to be a gentleman in town who collected Hot Wheels and wanted dad to meet him, being the retired person that he now is dad readily agreed to meet a fellower collector:-)

Dad was quite surprised to say the least and even more so when Veronica my sister stepped out from the back with two of her three daughters and then while he was busy talking to them I sneaked up behind him and stood there while Veronica got him to turn around and look at something behind him at which time he turned and looked right past me:-) lol

Barb had and awesome cake made for dads party. They did a wonderful job and I have to admit it looks a lot like my dad:-)

Dad had a really good time at his party lots of his fellow co-workers and just as many of the people from his route showed up to wish him good-bye. I wish I had pictures to show of day but I don't have any pictures yet - we had a friend taking pictures through the whole evening so look for some pictures in the future of the evening.

After the party was over we all packed up Veronica headed back to Kansas City and I headed home with Dad and Barb for the night and Dad took me to my friend Elizabeth's the next day.

On the Twelveth Day of Christmas...

Well the last day has arrived all the gifts have been opened dinner is baking and the kids are all playing in the boxes there gifts came in and not the presents in them:-) lol

Todays gift was given to all by... Oh hey me:-) lol

I made altered clipboards for everyone - they were really easy to make I bought everything to make them at the dollar store, then I tore stippled different colors on pages torn from a books I was altering tore the pages in strips and glued them on the clip board - I photo copied the the postage stamps. after everything was glued and dry I used gel gloss medium over the top of the clipboards then I used E6000 to glue the clips to the boards. Simple but cute:-)

I'm looking forward to hosting this swap again - Thank you to everyone who participated in this swap I had a fun time and I enjoyed all the gifts that were made! Have a Very Merry Rest of Christmas Day and Have a wonderful New Years Drive carefully if your on the roads!

Day 11 ABC Altered Book Club

Today is the Day 11 and the final day for ABC Altered Book Club - both of todays gifts are given to us by JJ McElroy - from group 1 she altered a spiral notebook I just loved the penguin, he is adorable!

For group 2 JJ made us a Christmas ornament using a matchbox - It is so cute JJ and what a wonderful idea I will have to remember this for next year:-) Thank you!! mine is on my tree.I had a really fun time hosting this swap ladies I do hope you will join in again next year! Just thought I'd share a few of my goodies:-) Dh bought me a Tinker Bell fleece blanket, Eyore slippers, a Christmas Bear and a Tinker Bell steering wheel cover - he really just wanted to get rid of the glow in the dark pink one I already have on my steering wheel:-) lol

Every year our friends Kathy and Freddy Have a Christmas Party and Santa Comes - What makes this party fun is that the Santa that we have has watched most of our kids grow up, Mr. Maize has been our Santa for 13 years now. It has kept the illusion of Santa alive and well in our children for many years past the usually age of reality:-)

Until lasat year Mr. Maize was a substitute teacher in the Montgomery County so he was privy to lots of good gossip about his children that would make there eyes go wide when they were sitting on his lap:-) lol

Hard to believe that Christmas is only 3 days away, but will still be paying for it until next Christmas:-) lol - Is everyone done Christmas shopping? I went and bought my turkey and pumpkin pies today and braved the fruit aisle to get cranberry sauce and let me tell you brave is an apt word - it is dangerous to try and get cranberry sauce during the holidays - people are like jackels waiting for a box to be put out and grabbing them out of stockers hands before they can even stock the shelves... Wal-Mart needs to give hazzard pay to stockers during the holidays and you better make sure your life insurance is paid up before you venture into the stores for Christmas dinner shopping:-( lol

What I did with some extra gifts

Just wanted to share with everyone, we had two extra sets of gifts from my ABC group we voted to give one to a friend who had to drop out becasue of a family crises and we thought she needed cheering up, But the other set we decided to doante at first I was going to take them to my Senior Citizen Center here in town but on my way to the allergist today I decided to take them to the hospital instead, So along with gifts from ABC - I also donated a few of the gifts from Puzzle Art Plus - since I was in 2 groups in that one too - as most of you know my dd helped me 'keep' some of my gifts as she really liked them too - but a few of the other items I just kept thinking what will I do with two - so I decided that I should share the beautiful art work with others - Lets face it - it really SUCKS to be in the hospital any time or any day but on Christmas now that is really the pits - so I thought that the gifts should go were they would be most needed! Even if you do have family that comes to visit, it just isn't going to be the Christmas you want to remember, so maybe our art will cheer some people up on Christmas Day.

I just wanted to share - I know most of you knew what the finale decision was but I wanted you all to know that I had completed my mission and all the gifts would find a good home for Christmas.

...Our friend Dale gave to us - Clothes pins - No not the kind you hang clothes with:-) lol She made us these beautiful large altered clothes pins that we can keep by our desk or where ever we would like and attach an important note to it or maybe use it as a picture holder - the possibilites are endless - Thank You Dale they are lovely - I gave my second one to my friend Boo she really liked it and decided that an already altered one was probably better as she is afraid her muse may never return -who know maybe your clothes pin will help her muse find her way home:-)Those of you who really know me won't be the least bit surprised to see that I will be using mine to showcase my beloved four legged furball - for those of you who don't know, but for the life of me I can't think of who you might be because I think I have and show off more pictures of him then I ever did my kids:-) lol - This is Kit-Kat - Dale you don't know what a privelage this is, I don't show off my little baby just anywhere it has to be the best:-) Ok well he may not be that spoiled but he is darn close to it - Kit-Kat is my gift from God - I am allergic to cats and I tell my Allergist that I am not allergic to him, he tells me that isn't possible, but I had him long before I ever started with the allergy shots and I never once had an allergic reaction of any kind to Kit-Kat I tell my Dr. that when he was born God decided that this little ball of fur was going to belong to me, because when we went to get him, he chose us right away crawled up in my lap and started purring the friend we got him from said he was never with anyone else, so I will always believe that he was a gift from God.

Ok now that I got way off on tangent - how did I get started on that?? Oh yes I was going to show you all what I did with my Clothes pin. This is my ball of fur in a box that is way to small for him, but like he cares - he LOVES boxes.

Day 7 has arrived well a bit early but I have to spend the day at my sewing machine tomorrow making a robe for grandaughter for Christmas, I forgot all about it then remembered they'd be here Sunday and I got to thinking oh $#@& I haven't even started her robe yet - Yes I am the Absent Minded Sally:-) lol

So Our first gift is from Zoe Payne she made us an altered notebook - guess now we can all get a head start on our Christmas gift list for next year - keep it close at hand and everytime you think of who or what you need to buy - you can make yourselves a not - just don't loose the book - that is something I would do and your not allowed to steal my ideas:-) lol - Well if I lost the book Christmas would have to be cancelled RIGHT??? Just think of all the money I could save next year:-) lol Ok I'm getting corny again - I'll finish up and stop making you all groan with my drab sence of humor:)

Day 6 Puzzle Art Plus

On the sixth day of Christmas our dear friend Kathy Burns gave to us... The coolest looking necklace to commerate puzzle art plus:-) These necklaces were wrapped in mini felt mittens, the mittens them selves were a cute gift! I actually know how these were made - she used to slides or glass and placed the puzzle between them and then she sottered them together - I have a freind who went out the very day I received Kathy's package and bought everything she needs to make necklaces like this I am going to have go to her house and play.

Kathy I LOVE my necklace and my daughter did too - she is actually wearing it - I am glad I had two spots in this swap or my daughter may have stolen mine:-) lol - I have already worn mine twice I have a nice outfit that I usually only get to wear once or twice a year and this necklace with the copper color goes PERFECTLY with it.

4th Day of Christmas ABC Altered Book Club

Sorry ladies I guess I got bit behind. I read JJ's e-mail talking about Sarah's gift and I was thinking she opened it ahead of time and come to find out it was me who was behind:-( I am really sorry.

Day 4 Group 1 is from Sarah Whitmire - she made us a very pretty wall hanging - I really love it and I think after Christmas I'll be using it as a tip-in in a misc. AB. Thank You Sarah it is lovely!

Day 4 - Group 2 is a really pretty note pad holder - It has a place at the top for a mini pen and velcro holds it together I already have mine next to my computer. Now for confession I lost my list that told me who's gifts to open on what days and if it wasn't for taking pictures of all the gifts in order I wouldn't even have the right order of the gifts - I am forever the absent minded artist:-( So if someone from these swaps would e-mail the correct names for each gift from the 4th day on in each group I would appreciate some of these gifts have names on it but some don't. So know that I am not trying to slight you I just don't remember whos gift this one is.

Today we got to open our gift from Kathy Logan - these are the most beautiful altered domino's, Kathy took two dominos and made them into a mini accordian book. The designs inside are peel and stick stickers. Very Beautiful Kathy Thank You!! They will be treasured.

Day 2 Puzzle Art Plus

In my ABC groups we ended up one day short so you will notice that my Puzzle Art Plus group will be a day ahead of the rest.

Day 2's gift was made by me Theresa Pillow - it is a large altered puzzle piece that can be used by the recipiant however they choose to display it. The background of these puzzles is my own handmade paper (see April 21, 2007 Elizabeth's Teaching at Work!), I was taught how to make this HMP by Elizabeth Kertz - Head Honcho at ABC Altered Book Club. I'm not positive, but if you check out her blog she may have a 'how to' on making HMP - I'm sorry I don't at this time.

12 Days of Christmas

In two of my yahoo groups I hosted a 12 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS swap (idea came from the Art E-Zines Artfull Christmas swap hosted by Holly V.) I ended up with three groups total.

So the gifts are below starting with Day 1

Puzzle Art Plus Day 1 gift by Joan Buchman a paper pinwheel Christmas ornament. This gift already has an honored spot on my Christmas tree.

ABC Altered Book Club Group 1 by Theresa Pillow a coaster made from a ceramic tile using alcohol inks and 'We Wish You a Merry Christmas' rubber stamp

ABC Altered Book Club Group 2 by Mary Nunaley a microwave popcorn holder - microwave popcorn my favorite!! I had to hide this gift from my daughter who is a popcorn thief:-) lol (Mary is from my Tennessee Stampers group on Yahoo, when I was shy a few days she volunteered to take a day)

This is a Memories Cube I learned to make at crafttv weekly - I'd do a tutorial but why when Tricia can do it so much better then me - I bought my cubes at Hobby Lobby - you can size yours down to 1 1/4" and get 8 blocks in a bag for $2.99 or the 1 1/2" block come in a bag of 6 so you would have to buy 2 bags. you can buy them from through craftv I didn't check the price I was in to much of hurry to make one so I went to to HL to get mine that day:-)

More Dominos

Here are two more dominos I did yesterday, These are pins instead of neclaces this time.

The butterfly one has been embossed - The fem is stamped and my favorite - I've been experimenting with new ways of embellishing them I used some glitter and gems on them.

The laugh for all of these I actually melted my heat gun yesterday while doing these I heat set between applications and I guess I kept my heat gun on to long so the inside melted to to the outside:-) lol Well I was able to buy a new pink one - don't think that was how I wanted a new one but it was legit:-) lol

More Christmas Gifts

I've gotten an earlier start this year on making my gifts - here are some new ones...

This first one is a coaster made from a ceramic tile colored with alcohol inks and then stamped with pallete inks - The stamp is 'We Wish You A Merry Christmas' sheet music.

This second is a domino necklass done the same way. I have about .30 cent invested in each gift.

I've spent the last two weeks at my sewing machine. I've made 3 shirts for myself and one for my daughter (which will not be pictured her room is a disaster area - Enter at your own risk - lol) 2 purses (1 for my dd which again will not be pictured again for reason above:-) lol, 2 tote bags 4 - 3 1/2 gallon bucket organizers - 1 blanket for my dd and 3 pillow cases, and 1 gardening apron. I'm trying to get a headstart on Christmas gifts this year so I'm not running crazy at the last minuter.

My very own HMP and of course it is purple.

Last night hubby helped me make my screens using old picture frames, window screen and a staple gun.

Thanks to a nice warm day outside I got instant gratification - no waiting 2 days - got to love mother nature.

This was made with purple and blue napkins with one white paper towel tossed in just for effect.

Thanks for teaching me how to make HMP Elizabeth I'm having fun!
